Headliner Basic and Pro tier users have the ability to make and save custom templates to their accounts. Templates are a great way to help speed up your social video creation process!
To create a template, you’ll need to create a project in the Advanced Editor. First, add audio to the project by clicking the blue plus in the media track.
Here, you'll be prompted with a number of different ways to add audio to your project. It does not really matter what audio you are adding if you are just trying to create a template. The audio will be replaced in future projects along with any elements that may be connected to an RSS feed (more on this later). When creating a template, everything is just a placeholder!
Next, add any additional elements you want to your template. Check out our gallery or Inspo section for some ideas!
Once you've finished designing your template, click 'SAVE AS A TEMPLATE' located in the upper left-hand corner.
Adding Captions to Templates
If you’re interested in adding captions to your template, you can do that really easily!
The easiest way to enable captions is during the upload process. Once you've selected the audio you're going to use, toggle the 'CAPTIONS' on (pictured below.)
Enabling captions will not bake those captions onto future projects; it will just configure your caption settings and styling. All captions are tied to the audio and are considered dynamic elements, meaning they'll update automatically with every project.
Pro Tips
Here are our Team Members' "pro tips" for creating templates in the Advanced Editor:
- Ensure all elements are the same duration - When adding elements in the track pad, you are able to manually set the element's duration. To ensure your template has smooth transitions and always appears on the screen, make sure all elements start and end at the same time (unless you are creating a pop-up effect!!! Then you do you.) This will prevent a blank or black screen from appearing on screen. **We typically see this at the very end or beginning as elements may have slightly different start or end time—every millisecond counts!**
- Add effects - You can add all sorts of effects to your templates! Play around with the different effects when uploading media to the Advanced Editor.
- Add dynamic elements - Dynamic elements are created using metadata connected to your RSS feed. You can tell Headliner to automatically add things like your episode title or show name! To do this, add text in track pad. For the show name, type "%%Podcast%%". For the episode title, type "%%Episode%%."
- Create using Canva! - Did you know you can connect your Headliner account to Canva? This lets you create some really cool designs without a ton of effort! To access Canva, just add media and then click the 'Canva' tab.
- Add transparent GIFs for moving backgrounds - Ever wonder how Headliner made our templates move? We layered GIFs! Add GIFs without a background to create some really engaging audiograms. (This also lets you quickly edit templates in the Quick Editor for unique, yet consistent designs every time.)
