Automations with Headliner are the easiest way to grow and market your podcast! True to their name, Automations automatically generate new podcast video clips every time you release a new episode and upload it to a YouTube Podcast Playlist.
This page will walk you through how to create a YouTube Video Clips Automation. For any additional questions, please visit our Automation FAQ page.
Step 1: Share Podcast Playlist with Headliner
To create a YouTube Video Clips Automation with Headliner, click the "Automation" wizard located in the center of your Headliner home screen.
Next, click the YouTube icon on the left-hand side of the Automation wizard. Then, paste in a share URL from your Podcast Playlist on YouTube. For information on how to find the share link on YouTube, please click here.
Once Headliner has successfully received your Podcast Playlist, your playlist will appear on Headliner. Click on the playlist to connect it to Headliner and successfully complete the first step.
Step 2: Choose Length and Set Auto-Sharing
Next, Headliner will prompt you to select a destination. Headliner can post and create clips for the following platforms:
- YouTube
- TikTok
- Threads
- X (formerly Twitter)
- Bluesky
When selecting a platform, it does not tie you to posting only to that platform. While Headliner can auto-post video clips for you, you can still access clips and download them to your device for cross-platform sharing. The choices you see above will have 2-3 length options to pick from; these options are considered length recommendations/best practices for the selected platform. To learn more about clip and recommended lengths, click here.
Once you've selected your ideal platform and clip length, you'll next decide how you'd like Headliner to share clips. Two options will appear: "Auto-post videos" and "Email videos."
Please note, you can create automations one at a time. To create more than one automation, you will need to repeat this process for each automation you'd like Headliner to run.
Auto-Posting
Auto-posting allows Headliner to post video clips directly to your selected platform. It is a set-it-and-forget-it tool that allows for automated growth on social media and YouTube.
After selecting Auto-post, you may be required to sign in to your Google or social media account. To check account connections and manage what accounts are connected to Headliner, learn how here.
Email Videos
Email videos tells Headliner to email your video clips project to you once we've finished processing. Email is a great way to get a variety of clips, up to 10 to be exact, to review and share with the world.
Step 3A: Add Post Metadata (Auto-Posting)
If you've elected to have Headliner auto-post video clips to your social media or YouTube account, you'll see a screen like the one below.
This window lets Headliner know how you'd like us to post. This includes things like video title, caption, and playlist.
You may notice a series of things pre-filled using script tagging indicated by <>. Headliner can pull key information from your full-length video to help create better video titles and captions for your Video Clips Automation.
Headliner can pull:
- Video Title
- Playlist Title
- Video Description
- Video Link
- Channel Title
- Video Category
- Playlist Description
To create dynamic, unique titles and captions for each new video in the automation. To add content from your full-length video to your video clips
If you would like to create evergreen copy for your captions, just type! Whatever you type (without the use of script tagging) will be added to every caption. This is perfect for podcasts that have a specific #hashtag or keyword they'd like added to every post.
Pro Tip: Want to auto-post videos to YouTube and social media but want to review them first? Select the Private posting setting in the next step. This way,, your video is sent to your account but won't go live until you review it and manually push it to public. To change posting to Private, click "See Additional Details," then select Private in the dropdown menu in the Visibility setting.
Step 3B: Select Your Starting Point
Regardless of how you choose to share your automation, you'll need to tell Headliner where to start.
Headliner has the ability to create video clips from your entire back catalog. By selecting Full Playlist, Headliner will start creating and sharing video clips from your very first upload to your Podcast Playlist on YouTube. Once Headliner has caught up, it will wait for your next release and then keep on creating for the next one, and the next one, and...you get the point.
If you'd rather promote your more recent stuff, select Future Videos. Future Videos clips and shares your most recent episode and then continues the automation with the next release.
Step 4: Design Your Video
Now it's time to style your video! Headliner offers a variety of pre-made video templates and caption presets to help you quickly style your video.
Step 5: You're Done!
And that's it. Once you've followed the steps above and successfully created an automation, Headliner will get to work clipping, sharing, and growing your video podcast.
